I got an email from a guy who said that he was really depressed and was about to hurt himself when a friend called and asked him to go dancing. He said no, he didn’t want to go out. And then after he hung up the phone, he remembered that line: “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy.” So he called the friend back, went dancing, had a great time, decided not to kill himself and wrote me a letter saying, “That line saved my life.” I was weeping [reading that]. What an offhand line to end up being so meaningful to someone. That blew my mind. (x)
The father’s artistic talent is clearly on display here, but I’m actually really impressed with this kid’s wild imagination. Many of his drawings are both conceptually unique and coherent.
He will surpass his father one day.
I highly recommend the book that these are from! There’s blurbs from both the son and father on the designs that both they did as well as how the other person designed it. The father talks about how his son will create more women and stuff and isn’t hindered by what is “typical” and the son will talk about how he likes how his dad updated/interpreted something or talk about why he drew something and thought it was cool or whatever or wish he saw more.
Also this artist is one of the artists who worked on/is working on the new anime series Cannon Busters that’s set to come out and has had a pilot episode released which features a largely POC/black cast and is created by LeSean Thomas who’s done work on The Boondocks and Legend of Korra!
